Wi-Fi for Seasonal Homes: Stay Connected While You're Away
When you're up north for the summer, your Florida home still needs to be online: cameras, leak and temperature sensors, smart thermostats and locks all depend on Wi-Fi that keeps working without anyone there to restart it.
Choose equipment you can manage remotely
A UniFi gateway can be monitored and managed from the UniFi app wherever you are, so you can see what's online and restart devices remotely. Many internet-provider routers don't give you that visibility.
Ride through power blips
Summer storms cause short outages. A battery backup on the modem and gateway keeps the network up through brief interruptions and helps everything reconnect cleanly when power returns.
Know what's happening at home
An indoor camera lets you check on the house, while water and temperature sensors warn you about leaks or a failed AC before mold or water damage sets in. Alerts only work if Wi-Fi does, so plan the network and the sensors together.
Book a check before you arrive
Before the season starts, a seasonal technology check covers up to ten devices: Wi-Fi, apps, firmware updates and anything that went offline over the summer. You arrive to a home that's ready.

Common questions
Should I turn off my Wi-Fi while I'm away?
Not if you rely on cameras, sensors or a smart thermostat. Leave the network on battery backup so those keep reporting.
Can you check my system before I fly back?
Yes. The seasonal technology check is designed for exactly that; book it a week or two before you arrive.
