Internet & Wi-Fi
A device won't connect to Wi-Fi
Everything else works, but one phone, laptop, TV or gadget won't join.
- 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and on
On the device, turn Wi-Fi off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on. On a phone you can also turn Airplane Mode on and off.
- 2
Restart the device
Fully power off the device (not just sleep), wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
- 3
Check you picked the right network
Many homes have more than one network name (for example 'Home', 'Home-5G' or a guest network). Choose your main network. Smart devices like cameras and plugs often only work on the 2.4 GHz network.
- 4
Forget and rejoin the network
In the device's Wi-Fi settings, tap the network and choose 'Forget'. Then select it again and type the Wi-Fi password carefully. It's case-sensitive. Find the password on the router sticker or on a device that's already connected. Never share this password with anyone who asks for it by phone, text, or chat.
- 5
Move closer and try again
Try joining while standing near the router. If it works there, the device is just out of range in its usual spot.
When to call a technician
Call us if several devices suddenly can't join, if the network name disappeared, or if a smart device needs to be set up on a special network.
Did this fix it?
Common questions
Where do I find my Wi-Fi password?+
It's often on a sticker on your router. On an iPhone already connected, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > tap (i) > Password. On Android, Wi-Fi > tap the network > Share.
Will I need to share my password with a technician?+
Our AI helper will never ask for passwords. If a technician needs network access during a visit, they'll handle it with you in person.
